Cauliflower Moussaka (Karnabahar Musakka)

Ingredients

  • 1 medium cauliflower
  • 1 large onion
  • 200 g ground meat
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • ½ small cup (~100 ml) olive oil
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp ground red pepper
  • 1 dessert spoon salt
  • 1 cup (200 ml) water
  • 1 carrot

Instructions

Separate the cauliflower into florets and wash thoroughly.

Put enough water and salt in a large pot, add the cauliflower, and boil for 5 minutes; remove from the stove and let it drain in a colander.

Chop the onion finely.

Peel the carrot and cut it as desired.

Method

Put the ground meat in a large pan and place on the stove; cook until the meat has absorbed its liquid.

Then add the chopped onions and olive oil, and sauté for 5 minutes.

Add the tomato paste, salt, and spices, stir, then add 1 cup of water; stir again and remove from the stove once it starts to boil.

Arrange the cauliflower in a large pot and add the carrot.

Pour the saucy ground meat prepared in the pan over it, close the lid, and place on the stove.

Once it starts to boil, cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes.

Serve. Note: Cubed chicken can be used instead of ground meat. If you prefer no meat, it can be made plain following the same method.
